Featured Community Member: @phiten
In this Featured Community Member post, we get to know @phiten who has already made multiple development contributions to both VeriCoin and Verium in 2018. If you’re in the Slack channel, you have surely seen @phiten answering questions and offering support to both Verium miners and VeriCoin stakers. @phiten is a great example of how members of a decentralized community can be directly involved with the progress of the project.
Everyone involved with or investing in VeriCoin/Verium should be thankful for all of @phiten’s contributions to this project. We’re excited to see what is in store as he plans to continue lending his skills and talents to VeriCoin and Verium.
Q: What is your handle or name you go by in the community?
Q: Where do you live?
Q: What initially drew you into cryptocurrency? (the tech, the investment side, the community aspects, the socio-economic)
A: I’ve started early with Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain. I’ve mined my first Bitcoins 5-6 years ago with an age of 14-15 with CPU and GPU but lost my wallet unfortunately. Started reading up at the technology. Stopped some month later with a few Bitcoins and some Dogecoins. In the mid of 2017 the interest turned back and I’ve started to do new researches.
As a student I don’t have much money to invest. That’s why very picky about investing. It was really important to me that a coin I’m investing in is revolutionary and not a copy/fork of any other project.
Q: When and how did you first learn of either VeriCoin and/or Verium?
A: It was around October or November 2017 when I did my final research and first read about Verium. As a IT-Specialist with quite a few CPU resources on hand, it was clear for me that I don’t want to have competition by ASICs or GPUs. Verium was the most promising around of the CPU only currencies. While researching Verium, I discovered VeriCoin and it’s unique technology. Fixed by this I’ve bought a few VRC and started mining VRM.
Q: What aspects of this project made you want to get involved?
A: The technology. I started mining VRM in different pools and was finding myself setting up more and more servers. As a lazy informatics student, I didn’t want to setup each server from scratch, so I developed an install script for Fireworm’s cpuminer which completely sets up a server. I shared it via github for the community and many people started using it. Soon after, there were a lot of request for an ARM compatible script, so I added ARM compatibility.
As a perfectionist I’m always trying to be the best with the things I’m doing. I was never personally satisfied with the existing Verium mining pools as I felt they were all the “same”. I started working on my own MPOS style and released n3rd3d in mid-January. Within 2 months it was the second largest mining pool.
This was my start to get deeper involved in the project. I started with some basic development and then created a successful mining pool and now I am developing other solutions based on and for VeriCoin and Verium. My latest projects are the release of my own v-nomp mining pool software and the release of a working web wallet working with Verium and VeriCoin (CoinVault.One). The next upcoming project is a CDN (Content Delivery Network) to supply all users with faster local downloads. After finishing that I will work on a concept for a stable world wide supernode/dnsseeder network to supply all wallets with more stable connections.
Below is a summary of some of the main contributions created by @phiten so far:
- Hosting a Verium Mining Pool – https://vrm.n3rd3d.com
- Adapting and Improving nomp for Verium in v-nomp – https://github.com/phiten/v-nomp
- Creating a Web Wallet – https://CoinVault.One
- Working on many things to adapt to Verium and VeriCoin https://github.com/phiten
- Organizing the Pools
Editor Note: @phiten does more than this. He is routinely offering to help in any way possible.
Q: In your opinion, what are some of the most urgent needs of the project that you will like to see improved or changed?
A: More contribution from more members.
Q: Do you have any advice for members who want to get involved but aren’t quite sure how or where to start?
A: If you want to contribute, have ideas you want to share or even make suggestions for change, you can start with something as simple as an email to contrib [at] vericoin [dot] info or join the Slack Community and write me @phiten to get in touch with the team.
Q: Aside from cryptocurrencies, what are some of your other interests?
A: I’m a typical IT-Specialist specialized at IT-Security and Networking. This has been my hobby since I was 7 years old. And Coffee.
Q: Do you have anything you would like to share with the community?
- Spread the word! Verium and VeriCoin are unique not only together each of them individually.
- Donate to the project. If everyone of our members would donate 10$ now we would be able to fund everything we’re planning.
- Get involved! Feel free to join our slack channel and write me @phiten
